Album: Din, 2018

THORKCHOP is from Chicago, Illinois in the USA. His latest record is DIN that was released this year. It’s a record that contains seven songs and even though they are of short duration (always below 3 minutes) reveal a world of intimate and mellow soundscapes. The production style is bedroom lo-fi. The song that starts the record, Something New, is comprised of textures of guitars with effects, harmonious vocals and a shy bass line that helps to sustain the melody. The next song, How did this Happen, is more centered around Thorkchop’s voice, a little bit reminiscent of E’s style (the lead vocalist of Eels) however it has its own identity. There is also some whistling that accompanies the soft sounding electric guitars. Let me Be is a song that most represents this kind of bedroom pop lo-fi. Vaporwave girl / Hold your Hand has tender lyrics and a catchy melody. I Wanna is a song that matches the same tenderness of Let me Be. Red Clay is probably one of the more interesting songs of the record, it has the makings of a vaporwave song especially on the beats and it’s like some sort of acoustic vaporwave. The song that ends the record is Bird and like the previous songs it offers us a mellow, intimate and soft environment.

It’s a humble and unassuming record that may appeal to fans of bedroom pop.
