                                                       - TRANSLATION -

The art of storytelling may be inspired by traveling around the world and meeting several cultures and societies or we can have that gift without ever having left our own city, but what is common in both situations, is the curiosity for other people and the need to create realities or parallel worlds.

The lyrical universe is as important as the scales, the rhythms and tempos of the songs. Poetry becomes key to the entrance in a delicate and sensitive world that scans human emotions.

It is in this context that we know the music made by Evelyn Drach, a singer songwriter from the UK whose roots come from Transylvania. Drach is the name of her mother’s family that went to UK during the WWII to avoid persecution. Evelyn Drach bestows an enormous importance to her family roots and believes she perpetuates the ancient art of telling stories and using music as its vessel.

Up with the Smoke is her debut album that contains poems and songs written during several years and in different locations around the globe. The album was recorded in London and had the collaboration of several musicians such as: Juba Wezler, Duncan Mortimer, Lucinda Chua, Clive Bell, Jack Lewin, Sol Bailey-Barker, Ebe Oke and Raz Olsher

Being a record that is both intimate and poetic, we tried to know the influences that move Evelyn Drach for her 5 books, 5 records, 5 films.
