- TRANSLATION -

Melancholy is an important muse for some composers and/or bands, we immediately remember the dream-like guitar lines with a subtle echo from The Cure, the glaciar beats but filled with danceable sweetness from New Order or the gloomy but dynamic energy from Joy Division. Bands that shook a whole decade filled with music lovers addicted to alternative sounds that produced hymns like A forest (The Cure), Blue Monday (New Order) and Love will tear us apart (Joy Division)

We imagined the distinct universe of each of those bands and traveling to our days, we instantly become aware of the personal universe of Erwan Pépiot, a multi-instrumentalist from France that under the name Somehow, has released at 25th of October, his second LP called Low Tide through Toolong Records and Differ-Ant.

The low tone of voice by Erwan Pépiot finds harmony with the soft and crystalline voice of Aurélie Trembley, creating a vocal duet with a very unique dynamic in each song of Low Tide. A record that is filled with songs that have their own identity, recorded and produced in Bernard’s home studio, which elevates the DIY facet of the composer that also played every instrument in the album.

Low Tide deals with themes from our days such as portraits of relationships, and universals such as Time, the need for emotional reconstruction and the desire for a revolution that arises from a romantic and introspective conscientiousness.

The melodies are based upon a variety of instruments that coexist peacefully. Guitars, violins, cellos, synths and melodicas are part of the musical constellation of Somehow that through Low Tide takes us on high and low tides that run down on the last song of the record, A mirage of us, a song that divides itself in harmonic mood swings. The romantic melancholy falls in love with the catchy and hopeful sweetness produced by jangling bass and guitar lines allied with scintillating notes from the synths.
