ANCST brotou em 2011 e desde então assinou 23 álbuns em várias editoras, entre elas, Lifeforce Records (Heaven Shall Burn, Trivium, Caliban), Vendetta Records (Ultha, Woe, Thou) e Supreme Chaos Records (Unleashed, Grave, Napalm Death). A banda, nascida em Berlim, é uma autêntica força da natureza, combinando a energia directa e contagiante de hxc puro com a sonoridade mais extrema do metal, em doses generosas de injecções de death e blackmetal.
A banda tem feito mossa ao longo dos anos no cenário europeu da música mais extrema e o seu álbum mais recente, Summits of Despondency, editado em Setembro deste ano, é uma infusão de adrenalina merecida e esperada para quebrar a apatia deste tempos conturbados.
Os 12 temas do disco são homogéneos na sua mistura de agressividade com passagens mais etéreas, sendo que a banda tem uma génese exploratória, incorporando dark ambient. Basta ouvirmos os 3 primeiros temas do disco para sermos assolados por uma tempestade de riffs criativos, pesados e extremamente contagiantes, como é o caso no tema Final Hour. Há também uma mistura equilibrada de passagens mais serenas e melancólicas como é o caso do tema, The Burden of Hope, Part I que dá entrada a The Burden of Hope, Part II, uma avassaladora experiência sónica.

Feito através do corte e da colagem de todo o texto obtendo diferentes contextos, este foi mesmo um livro muito importante para mim e, provavelmente, o meu preferido de todos os tempos. É bastante esquisito.
- Girlfriend in a Coma, Douglas Coupland
Coupland nunca desilude. Li este livro quando era adolescente e fiquei todo emo à pala do livro.
- Our band could be your Life, Michael Azerrad
Este faz o retrato de uma data de grandes bandas DIY e a sua visão sobre a música e o negócio. Li este um milhão de vezes.
- Get in the Van, Henry Rollins
Os diários das digressões dos Black Flag. Desesperado e soturno, mas tens tanta vontade de estar lá.
- Roadside Picnic, Arkady and Boris Strugatsky
Um romance de sci-fi esquisito russo e altamente influente escrito por esses dois irmãos.

Comprei este álbum numa loja de artigos em segunda mão algures na Alemanha de leste, e comprei porque AN é brutal. Na altura, pensei que Converge era blackmetal por causa dos vocais agudos. Ainda não sabia muito sobre hardcore (tinha apenas 14/15 por aí). O lado deste split com temas dos Converge, acabou por ser o meu preferido de todos os tempos de metallic hardcore. Amo a produção, os temas, a energia.
- Inside the torn Apart, Napalm Death
Obtive este através do meu pai quando tinha 10/11 anos e, bem, foi assim que tudo começou. Grande death metal de meados dos anos 90 com groove dos reis do grindcore em UK.
- Lift Yr. Skinny Fists Like Antennas to Heaven!, Godspeed You! Black Emperor
Não ligo muito a post-rock porque foi tudo gamado deste disco. Por isso, se quiser ouvir "post-rock" limito-me a ouvir este disco. É mesmo muito bom.
- Night is the new Day, Katatonia
Gosto muito de vocais limpos e adoro grandes melodias. Muito Steven Wilson. Muito bom!
- Stalker, B. Lustmord / Robert Rich
Gosto muito de dark ambient e foi complicado escolher um álbum desse género. Decidi-me por Lustmord porque vejo-o como um avô do género e porque adoro Roadside Picnic e o Stalker que, basicamente, vai dar ao mesmo.

- Star Wars - Everything, George Lucas & others
Gosto de todos os filmes. Até mesmo Clone wars, rebels e resistance. Mas não gosto dos filmes Lego.
- Scott Pilgrim vs The World, Edgar Wright, Michael Bacall
Alimenta a minha angst de adolescência e necessidade de histórias de amor foleiras. Desculpem, ou nem tanto.
- Mad Max: Fury Road, George Miller, Nico Lathouris, Brendan McCarthy
Gosto dos filmes antigos e, apesar de ser um grande fã de ficção pós-apocalíptica e distópica, este filme foi o que mais mexeu comigo.
- Frank Oz: The dark crystal, Jim Henson
Amo a maneira como faziam filmes nos anos 80. Muito old school com todos os fantoches e os modelos. Este é mesmo uma obra-prima nesse prisma.
- Anchorman, Will Ferrell, Adam McKay
Vi este filme uma data de vezes e nunca me farto. Jack Black a pontapear o cão do Anchorman ponte fora - intemporal.

The band from Berlin is an authentic force of nature, combining the direct and contagious energy of pure hxc with the more extreme sonorities of extreme metal, with generous injections of death and black metal.
The band has been making its mark along the years in the European underground music scene and its recent album, Summits of Despondency edited in September this year, is an anticipated adrenaline infusion needed to break the apathy of these troubled times.
The 12 themes of the album are solid in its mixture of aggression and ethereal passages, being that the band has an exploratory dimension, incorporating elements of dark ambient. Listening to the first 3 tracks of the record, we are immediately thrown into a vortex of creative, heavy and addictive riffs, and such is the case in the theme, Final Hour.
An essential and brilliant record that besides comprising intensely creative, intense and extreme themes is based upon true DIY ethics. Unmissable to fans of metal, hardcore or both.
The vocalist, lyricist and composer of the band, Tom Schmidt firmly believes in DIY, and besides fronting ANCST, he mastered and mixed the album in his bedroom, made the artwork, founded a PR agency and co-released the album through his own label, Yehonata Tapes. Made by cutting up all Text and piecing it together in another way, this one had been an eye-opener and is probably my favorite book of all time. It’s really weird.
- Girlfriend in a coma, Douglas Coupland
Can’t go wrong with Coupland. I read this when I was a teenager and went all emo over it.
- Our band could be your Life, Michael Azerrad:
This one is portraying a lot of great DIY bands and their approach to music and business. I read that thing a million times.
- Get in the Van, Henry Rollins
Black Flag Tour diaries. Desperate and bleak but you wanna go out there so hard.

Highly influential Russian dystopian sci-fi craziness from these two brothers.

I bought this in a second-hand store somewhere in eastern Germany and first just got it because AN was insane. I thought Converge was black metal because of the high pitched screaming. I didn’t know yet about hardcore (I was 14/15 maybe). The converge Side of that split turned out to be my all-time fav. Metallic hardcore record ever. I love the production, the songs, the energy.

Got this from my dad when I was around 10/11 years old and well, thats how it started. Great mid 90s grooving death metal but UKs grindcore kings.

I do love dark ambient and it was hard to pick a record from that corner. I went with Lustmord because I see him as the grandfather to the genre and because I love roadside picnic and stalker is basically the same.

I do like the old ones but although I am a huge fan of post-apocalyptic/dystopian fiction this one got through to me.

I love how they did movies in the 80s. Still old school with all the puppets and models. This one is a true masterpiece in that regard.

I watched this a lot of times and it never gets old. Jack Black kicking Anchormans dog off the bridge - timeless.
