A música pode oferecer um escapismo e ao mesmo tempo ser arma ou veículo de contestação ou superação, ajudando a sobreviver em ambientes hostis e recheados de violência. O extremismo sonoro tem um efeito catártico em quem toca e quem ouve tocar, as barreiras de género tornam-se menos limitadoras e a adrenalina flui livremente a cada segundo, a cada mudança de riff ou acorde, em cada blast beat e na cadência voraz das vocalizações.
Grindcore sempre se destacou pela sua vertente política e social, por vezes séria, por outra mascarado de um sentido de humor cáustico ou politicamente incorrecto. Em Nápoles, onde a pobreza e a criminalidade organizada se confundem num submundo peculiar, um grupo de músicos usam máscaras para ocultar a sua verdadeira identidade e passar mensagens através do único veículo que conhecem e que sempre lhes foi fiel: a música.
Napoli Violenta é uma banda de metal extremo que não descura revelar as suas influências eclécticas que juntas formam uma malha coesa e impenetrável na sua integridade e identidade pura ao mesclar dois universos fascinantes para a banda: o grindcore e o pollitiozesco, um género que identifica os filmes produzidos em Itália durante os anos 70 de génese policial e criminal. O resultado é um grindcore avassalador, violento e muito fiel e puro às suas raízes.

Bastaria o nome: uma vida consagrada à música extrema. É também impressionante listar tudo o que fez na sua carreira. Um mito vivo e um exemplo para todos aqueles que trabalham neste género.
- 1984, George Orwell
Este romance foi definitivamente distópico mas, bem, vocês já estiveram no ano de 2020? Então, basta-vos abrir a janela. Eu diria que é bastante profético.
- Submundo, Don DeLillo
Este romance, para nós, é como uma descrição do motivo porque somos como somos. Adoramo-lo por causa da linguagem carregada de termos oriundos dos dialectos italianos que expõem as origens do autor. E também porque oferece um esboço interessante sobre as assim chamadas teorias da conspiração.
- Clube de Combate, Chuck Palahniuk
O livro que inspirou o filme com Brad Pitt e Edward Norton, mas que é toda uma outra história. A violência (des)educativa, a esquizofrenia, que se tornam um guia num mundo confuso e sem esperança. Qualquer referência a factos e situações reais é pura coincidência.
- Così Parlò Bellavista (Assim Falou Bellavista), Luciano De Crescenzo
Manifesto de um estilo de vida, de um modo de ser napolitano. Mais do que filosofia, é um modo para se estar no mundo e enfrentar com leveza até mesmo as situações negras como a droga e a criminalidade organizada. Uma forma de superar a lógica da sobrevivência e ser-se livre num mundo que privilegia apenas o capitalismo.

Porque, para nós, começou tudo aí. Vinte e cinco faixas para pouco mais de 34 minutos. Mais do que outra coisa, uma nota de intenções e atitude pura.
- Stormtroopers of Death, SOD
Pelos mesmos motivos do ponto um. Imagina quatro adolescentes de quinze anos fechados em casa a tarde toda a triturarem Milk, March of the SOD, Kill Yourself, etc. Em suma, basta olhar para a formação. Muitos de nós pegaram no instrumento musical pela primeira vez pensando nesta malta.
- Calibro 9, Pino Mauro
Quem nunca viveu em Nápoles não pode imaginar o que será o imaginário das canções do submundo. Um mundo em que a violência impiedosa cruza-se com a honra e a justiça, uma celebração da guapparia* que não tem nada a ver com as representações modernas da camorra. Este disco de Mauro é a obra-prima do género, com direcção de orquestra do maestro Eduardo Alfieri. Faixas como ‘O Nfamone, L’urdema Curtellata, ‘Na raffica ‘e mitra’ e a faixa que dá o título ao álbum são obras-primas.
- Damaged, Black Flag
Um marco. Quando és jovem e não tens muitas referências, o furor de Rollins e uma faixa como “Rise Above It” mudam-te a vida. Não é por acaso que tenha sido posteriormente utilizado até no hip-hop. Mas depois de “Six pack”, “Room 13”, “TV Party”, temo-lo sempre em mente.

Icónico. Horas passadas a escrutinar cada milímetro da capa.

- Violência em Nápoles, Umberto Lenzi
O que esperavam de nós? É o nosso conceito, daí a ideia de unir o poliziottesco ao grindcore. Imprescindível, a começar pela banda-sonora.
- Taxi Driver, Martin Scorsese
Um filme que, na nossa opinião, mostra o modo como a pressão exercida pela sociedade pode despoletar a mais cega das violências. O indivíduo passa a ser o homem maléfico apontado por todos, aquele que precisa de reeducação e de reabilitação, mas não fica claro se realmente será ele o carrasco ou antes aqueles que têm interesse em que as nossas cidades e periferias sejam e permaneçam tal como as vemos: uma concentração de exploração e prevaricação.
- Inquérito a Um Cidadão Acima de Qualquer Suspeita, Elio Petri
Um enormíssimo Gian Maria Volenté que interpreta um polícia que se torna num criminoso em nome do poder estabelecido. Uma união perfeita com a música de Morricone.
- Os Selvagens da Noite, Walter Hill
Não é só a luta entre gangues ou a celebração do orgulho de se ser outsider mesmo quando se é injustamente perseguido. É o conjunto todo. Guerreiros, vamos brincar à guerra?
- Cães Raivosos, Mario Bava
Um poliziottesco assinado por um mestre absoluto do (cinema de) terror. Na nossa opinião, mostra que a violência não tem uma filosofia mas muitas vezes é um fim em si mesma, uma visão muito próxima da realidade. De todos os poliziotteschi dos anos 70, muitas vezes carregados de conotações ideológicas próprias daqueles anos, este é o mais desiludido, talvez o mais cínico, e sempre nos agradou por isso.

Music can offer escapism and at the same time be a weapon or vessel for activism or overcoming, helping to cope and survive in hostile and violent environments. Extreme music has a cathartic effect in those who play and those who listen, the genre barriers become less austere and the adrenaline flows freely at each second, each change of riff or chord, in each blast beast and in the voracious cadence of the vocals.
Grindcore has always set itself apart by its political and social inclines, sometimes serious, sometimes disguised with a caustic sense of humor and a strong dose of political incorrectness. In Naples, where poverty and organized crime confound themselves in a peculiar underworld, a group of musicians wear masks to hide their identities that freely flow through the vessel that they are loyal to: Music.
Napoli Violenta is an extreme band that does not hide their eclectic influences that combined together form a thick mantel of integrity and pure identity by mixing two fascinating universes for the band: grindcore and poliziotteschi, a genre of films produced in Italy during the 70’s of crime/police thematics. The result is a crushing, violent and faithful to its pure roots kind of grindcore.
We asked the band about their references and they also added some notes which we translated from Italian. Here they are:

- Metal Veteran, Dan LilkerThe title of the book would suffice: a life dedicated to extreme music. It's also impressive to list everything he has done in his career. A living myth and an example for those who work withing the genre.

This novel is clearly distopic but well, have you been living in 2020? Then, you only have to open your window. I would say it's very prophetic.
- Underworld, Don DeLillo
This novel, to us, is like a description of why we are how we are. We love it because of its language filled with terms from italian dialects that expose the origin of the author. And also because it offers an interesting view about the so called conspiracy theories.
- Fight Club, Chuck Palahniuk
The book that inspired the movie starring Brad Pitt and Edward Norton, but that is a whole different thing withing itself. The (un)educational violence, the schizophrenia, that become a guide in a hopeless and confusing world. Any reference to facts or real life situations is pure coincidence.
- Così Parlò Bellavista, Luciano De Crescenzo
Manifesto of a way of life, of a way of being from Naples. Way more than a philosophy, it's a way to be in the world and face with a certain lightness the somber situations such as drugs and organized crime. A way to overcome the logic of mere survival and to be free in a world that only promotes capitalism.

Those that never lived in Naples can't imagine the imaginary of the underworld songs. A world where unmerciful violence coalesce with honour and justice, a celebration of guapparia that has nothing to do with the modern representations of the camorra. This record by Mauro is a masterpiece of the genre with the orchestral direction by Eduardo Alfieri. Themes like ‘O Nfamone, L’urdema Curtellata, ‘Na raffica ‘e mitra’ and the theme that names the album are masterpieces.

A film that in our opinion, shows the way how society can pressure someone into a blind acts of violence. The individual becomes an evil man outcast by their peers and in need for rehabilition or reeducation, but it does not become clear if he is the executioner of if the real executioners are those who have an interest in making our cities and suburbs remain as they are: a center for exploitation and vice.

A great Gian Maria Volenté who plays a cop that becomes a criminal in the name of the powers to be. A perfect match for Morricone's music.
- The Warriors, Walter Hill
It's not just the gang wars or the celebration of the pride of being an outsider even when you are injustly persecuted. It's the whole affair. - Cani arrabbiati, Mario Bava
A poliziottesco directed by an absolute master of horror cinema. In our opinion, it shows that violence does not have a philosophy but is sometimes an end in itself, a point of view very close to reality. Of all the poliziotteschi from the 70's, that are seldom filled with ideological conotations from that era, this is the most desolate and perhaps the most cynical, and it always appealed to us because of that.
